The Dangers of the Resin Veneer Trend in Young People

The popularity of resin veneers has increased significantly among young people in recent years. This trend, which has become a real trend, arouses curiosity and the desire to improve the appearance of the teeth. However, it is essential to be aware of the dangers involved in this procedure.

Resin veneers are thin sheets of aesthetic material placed on the surface of teeth to correct imperfections such as stains, misalignment and irregularities. Although they can provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance, you need to understand the risks to your oral health and consider carefully before going down this route.

In this series of articles, we’ll explore the dangers of resin veneers in young people and help you make an informed decision about this procedure. We’ll talk about the possible risks involved, the impacts on long-term oral health and the alternatives available. In addition, we will highlight the importance of a consultation with a qualified professional and post-procedure care so that you are prepared and aware before following this trend. We will also show you other treatment options such as tooth whitening and Porcelain Contact Lenses, which are considered a more durable and aesthetically superior treatment option. They can also be combined with other treatments such as dental implants.

Check out the following articles for complete and relevant information on resin veneers in young people, ensuring that you are well informed before making any decisions.

What is a resin veneer?

Resin veneers are a dental procedure that consists of applying thin layers of composite resin to the teeth to improve their aesthetic appearance. These veneers are a popular option for correcting dental imperfections such as stains, chips or misalignment.

To place the resin veneers on the teeth, the dentist removes a small amount of tooth enamel to ensure that the veneers fit correctly. The resin is then carefully applied to the teeth and molded to obtain the desired shape. Finally, the resin is polished to provide a natural, long-lasting finish.

Resin veneers are a popular option for correcting dental imperfections such as stains, chips or misalignment due to their low cost and speed of execution.

How is the Resin Veneer made?

The application of resin veneers is a simple and minimally invasive procedure that can be carried out in just a few dental appointments. This technique offers satisfactory aesthetic results and can significantly improve an individual’s smile. They can even be performed in conjunction with dental implants for patients who need them on other teeth.

*To find out more about implants, visit: 7 Crucial Questions About Dental Implants

The material used in resin veneers is usually composite resin, which is a resistant and versatile material. Composite resin can be manipulated by the dentist to perfectly match the color and shape of the natural teeth, providing a harmonious and natural look to the smile.

It’s important to note that resin veneers can be a temporary solution, as they may need to be replaced over time due to natural wear and possible discoloration. Resin is a material that acquires pigmentation over time, turning yellowish. This does not happen with porcelain contact lenses, as porcelain always remains the same color and shape.

Growing popularity among young people

The practice of using resin veneers has gained significant popularity among young people in recent years. This trend has been driven by a variety of reasons, ranging from the search for an aesthetically appealing smile to the influence of social media and celebrities.

With the growing importance of physical appearance in today’s society, many young people are looking to improve their smile and self-confidence. Resin veneers offer a relatively affordable and quick solution for correcting dental imperfections such as stains, slight misalignments and small gaps between teeth.

Unlike other more complex dental procedures, such as implants or braces, resin veneers require less time and no drastic interventions. This makes resin veneers more attractive to young people who want a quick and efficient makeover.

However, young people should be aware of the potential risks and impacts of this dental procedure before making an informed decision. First of all, they should thoroughly assess the real need for an intervention on a healthy tooth and the long-term consequences and complications.

Risks involved with resin veneers in young people

Resin veneers have gained popularity among young people, but it is important to be aware of the risks involved in this procedure. Although it is a non-invasive method of improving the appearance of teeth, there are possible complications and side effects that should be considered.

One of the risks associated with resin veneers is the possibility of developing tooth sensitivity. As veneers involve removing a small amount of tooth enamel, teeth can become more sensitive to cold or hot temperatures. This can cause discomfort when eating or drinking food and drinks at different temperatures.

In addition, young people who opt for resin veneers can also face bite adjustment problems. If the veneers are not designed correctly or placed in an inappropriate position, this can affect the way the teeth fit together when closing the mouth. This can lead to chewing problems, jaw pain and even speech problems.

Another risk of resin veneers is excessive wear on the teeth. Due to the material used in veneers, such as composite resin, teeth can wear down faster than normal. This can result in irreversible damage to the teeth and require additional dental treatment in the future, possibly leading to tooth loss and the need for dental implants.

It is essential that young people are aware of these risks before opting for resin veneers. Consulting a dentist specializing in cosmetic dentistry is essential for a complete assessment of oral health and determining whether the procedure is appropriate for each specific case.

Although resin veneers can provide a significant aesthetic improvement, it is important to weigh up the potential risks. Young people should seek adequate information and make an informed decision about the procedure.” – Dr. Roberto Markarian, ImplArt Clinic.

Reversibility of resin veneers

In this section, we will explore whether resin veneers can be removed and whether it is possible to reverse their effects. It is important that readers are aware of the procedures involved in removing resin veneers and the options available.

Resin veneers are reversible, which means that they can be removed if necessary or desired. However, the removal of resin veneers requires the knowledge and skill of a qualified dentist.

There are different methods for removing resin veneers, depending on the type of adhesive used in their initial placement. The dentist can use techniques such as mechanical removal, using special drills, or chemical removal, using specific solvents.

It is important to note that removing resin veneers can result in damage to the teeth, such as loss of enamel or small fractures. It is therefore essential to seek the advice of a qualified professional before opting to remove veneers.

“Resin veneers should be removed by an experienced dentist to ensure safety and minimize the risk of damage to natural teeth.” – Dr. Roberto Markarian

If the patient decides to remove the resin veneers, it may be necessary to plan additional treatment to restore the appearance and functionality of the teeth. The dentist will be able to evaluate other options, such as dental crowns or dental contact lenses, to achieve the desired result.

In conclusion, resin veneers are reversible and can be removed by a qualified dentist. However, it is essential to consider the potential risks and the impact on oral health before making the decision to remove them.

Removal methodsDescription
Mechanical removalUse of special drills to separate the resin veneers from the natural teeth.
Chemical removalApplication of specific solvents to weaken adhesion between resin veneers and natural teeth.

Alternatives to resin veneers

For those who want to improve the appearance of their teeth, there are alternatives to resin veneers. In addition to the resin veneers procedure, there are other dental treatments available that can give stunning aesthetic results.

Dental Contact Lenses

One of the popular alternatives to resin veneers are dental contact lenses. These ultra-thin porcelain veneers are applied to the surface of the teeth, providing a natural appearance and a perfect smile. Dental contact lenses or porcelain veneers are ideal for correcting imperfections such as stains, spacing between teeth and misaligned teeth. Contact lenses remain the same over time, without changing shape or color.

Dental crowns

Another option is dental crowns, which are protective caps placed over a damaged, discolored or worn tooth. As well as improving the appearance, dental crowns can also strengthen and protect teeth. Crowns are made from porcelain, metal or a combination of materials, depending on the needs of each patient. However, it is important to note that dental crowns are indicated for teeth that are already compromised and weakened.

The importance of a consultation with a qualified professional

A consultation with a specialist in aesthetic dentistry provides an accurate assessment of the dental condition and offers fundamental information for making an informed decision about resin veneers. At Clínica ImplArt, considered the best dental clinic in São Paulo, each case is assessed individually by Dr. Roberto Markarian, taking into account the patient’s general oral health and identifying whether this is the most suitable option for improving the appearance of the teeth.

Dr. Markarian addresses all treatment options. Alternatives to resin veneers are evaluated, presenting other treatment options that can meet the patient’s needs and achieve desired results, such as dental contact lenses and laser whitening.

Post-procedure care

After placing resin veneers, it is essential to follow specific precautions to ensure the durability and success of the procedure. Good oral hygiene and some additional care are recommended to avoid complications and maintain a healthy smile.

Daily oral hygiene

It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and suitable toothpaste. In addition, it is recommended to floss daily to remove plaque and food debris from between the teeth.

Avoid pigmented foods and drinks as they may stain the Resin Veneer

Foods and drinks with intense coloring, such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, red wine and dark sauces, can stain resin veneers over time. It is advisable to avoid excessive consumption of these products or, if consumed, to perform immediate oral hygiene after ingestion.

Avoid biting hard objects

Avoiding biting hard objects such as pens or opening packages with your teeth is essential to prevent damage to resin veneers. These habits can cause cracks, chips or even the veneers to peel off, compromising the aesthetic result achieved.

Regular visits to the dentist

It is essential to keep regular visits to the dentist, usually every six months, for professional assessments and cleanings. During these appointments, the professional will be able to check the integrity of the resin veneers, ensuring that they are in good condition and carrying out any necessary adjustments or repairs.

Post-procedure careRecommendations
Daily oral hygieneBrush your teeth twice a day, floss daily.
Avoid pigmented foods and drinksAvoid excessive consumption of coffee, tea and red wine, among others, or clean your mouth immediately after drinking them.
Avoid biting hard objectsDon’t bite hard objects like pens or open packages with your teeth.
Regular visits to the dentistKeep appointments every six months for professional evaluations and cleanings.

Regular check-ups and professional monitoring

Once the resin veneers have been fitted, it is crucial to have regular check-ups with a qualified dentist. During these appointments, the professional will assess the condition of the veneers, the health of the underlying teeth and carry out any necessary cleaning and adjustments. Regular check-ups make it possible to identify and treat any problems before they become more serious.

In addition, regular check-ups help to monitor the correct adaptation of the resin veneers and check that there is no wear or improper fit. These assessments also allow the dentist to detect any signs of complication, such as infiltrations or damage to adjacent teeth, ensuring the longevity of the veneers and overall oral health.

It is recommended that regular check-ups take place every six months, or as advised by the dentist, allowing for proper monitoring and the opportunity to make adjustments or correct problems early on.

The importance of professional support

In addition to regular check-ups, it is essential to have professional follow-up care throughout the process. During follow-up appointments, the dentist will be able to answer any questions or concerns the patient may have, offer specific guidance on oral hygiene and provide personalized care according to individual needs.

According to Dr. Roberto Markarian, professional follow-up is also an opportunity for the dentist to identify any signs of excessive wear, adjust the bite if necessary and provide valuable tips for maintaining the long-term health of the veneers and teeth.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is crucial that young people carefully consider the dangers associated with resin veneers before joining this aesthetic trend. Although they can provide a temporary attractive appearance, these veneers also pose risks to oral health in the long term.

We strongly recommend that those interested in resin veneer procedures seek adequate information and consult a qualified professional before making a decision. It is essential to understand the possible side effects, complications and impacts on oral health before going ahead with the procedure.

In addition, there are alternatives available to improve the appearance of the teeth, such as dental contact lenses and dental crowns. Treatments can be carried out alongside dental implants or other oral rehabilitation procedures. It is important to explore all the options and seek the advice of a specialist in aesthetic dentistry.

Considerations by Dr. Roberto Markarian, director of the ImplArt Clinic on Resin Veneer treatment

We are living in an era when dental aesthetics are highly valued, which is understandable and legitimate. However, I often see young people who come to the clinic looking for resin veneers influenced by fads and with no real idea of the impact this procedure can have.

Our mission at the ImplArt Clinic is to inform, guide and offer the best alternatives for each patient, always prioritizing long-term oral health. Aesthetics are important, but they must never compromise the function and integrity of the teeth.

Before following any trend, I recommend seeking out a qualified professional who can present an individualized treatment plan based on a complete diagnosis. Dental implants under sedation for those afraid of the dentist

What is sedation?

Now those who are afraid of the dentist can rest easy. Simple or complex dental procedures can be carried out in a dentist’s office under intravenous sedation. The technique allows the odontophobic patient’s level of consciousness to decrease at the time of the procedure, but does not affect their ability to breathe and respond appropriately to physical stimulation and verbal commands.

It is important to note that the ImplArt Clinic team provides humanized care, in other words, respecting the limits of each patient, so that they can feel welcome and at ease. This applies to simple procedures such as prophylaxis and restorations, root canal treatment and even surgical procedures such as bone grafting or dental implants.

How is sedation carried out?

Before the procedure begins, an anesthesiologist applies a sedative medication intravenously. Dental treatment is then carried out by the dentist. This treatment can be as simple as a prophylaxis or include a dental implant or bone graft. In the meantime, the anesthesiologist remains in the room throughout the procedure or surgery, monitoring the patient and also following their recovery. There is also nitrous oxide conscious sedation, in which the patient breathes in a gas (nitrous oxide). However, at ImplArt we only offer intravenous sedation. We don’t use gas because it doesn’t offer enough reassurance to a patient who is afraid.

Why sedate?

You may be a candidate for sedation if you have odontophobia (fear of the dentist), fear of pain, get irritated by the noise of the motor, don’t like the anesthesia needle, are afraid of the dental office, afraid of blood, dental drills, etc. In this way, the procedure becomes simple for the patient, because when they wake up, all the work has already been done. It also offers convenience, as sedation is carried out in the dental office without the need for hospitalization. Even if conscious during the procedure, the patient doesn’t remember what happened.

Is it a general anesthetic?

Sedation is not general anesthesia. General anesthesia uses more powerful drugs and the patient becomes unconscious, needing the aid of breathing apparatus. During simple sedation, the patient remains drowsy but awake (conscious).

What do you feel during sedation?

Sedation by vein gives the patient a feeling of comfort, as they almost fall asleep but remain conscious. It also makes the dentist’s job easier, as he uses fewer anesthetics and can work more quickly.

What procedures can be done under sedation?

Simple or complex procedures can be carried out. In most cases, the dentist can take the opportunity to carry out several treatments in one day, in what is known as a Dental Day Clinic or Dental Spa. Examples of treatments that can be carried out under sedation are: fillings, cleaning, surgery, dental implant surgery, tooth extraction, wisdom tooth extraction, periodontal scraping, tooth whitening, among others.

Who can do it?

Any patient in good general health can undergo this technique. First of all, the anesthesiologist will check whether you can undergo the procedure, or if there are any restrictions, and may request some tests. Please note: we do not treat children or special patients.

Testimonials

“Excellent clinic and excellent professionals. I had a phobia of dentists, I had implant surgery with conscious sedation and other treatments over a few months and from start to finish I didn ‘t feel any pain. I recommend it 100%” – Alessandra Escobar

“I’m very anxious about going to the dentist and I’ve always avoided it as much as possible. Now it’s been five years without treating my teeth, so I ended up losing some dentures, had a lot of cavities and an episode of pain. Then I came across the ImplArt clinic and this sedation technique. It was very easy to have the treatment this way. The doctor who saw me was very attentive and looked after me until the end of the procedure. I also found that the dentist worked quickly and did some implants and treated the cavities while I was asleep. It was kind of magical, but when I woke up everything was ready, I thought it was great” – M.R.R., businesswoman

Dental Implants in the Elderly: Is it Safe? Benefits of implants on quality of life

With the increase in life expectancy, the search for quality of life in old age has never been more important. For many older people, dental implants are the ideal solution for regaining functionality, aesthetics and confidence in their smile. Today’s elderly are challenging the stereotypes of ageing. With more access to information, greater concern for well-being and advances in medicine, they live actively, seek to improve their quality of life and don’t give up on aesthetics, especially when it comes to oral health and dental treatments.

But are dental implants safe for the elderly? In this article, we’ll explore the advances in modern dentistry that make dental implants a safe option and the benefits they offer in the elderly. This applies to individual dental implants, total implants and protocol prostheses.

But after all, who is considered elderly these days?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the concept of the elderly varies according to the reality in each country. In developing nations, such as Brazil, people aged 60 or over are considered elderly, while in developed countries, the age range starts at 65.

However, the view of ageing has changed. Today, many elderly people live actively, participating in physical and social activities and investing in their health and well-being, including through dental treatments that combine functionality and aesthetics. This profile reflects a generation seeking healthy longevity and quality of life.

The Elderly and the Search for Quality of Life

With an ever-increasing life expectancy, the elderly are living fuller and more active lives:

  • Healthy longevity: Many take part in physical activities, travel and try to stay socially connected.
  • Oral health as a priority: Taking care of your smile is not just an aesthetic issue, but also a functional one. Dental problems can affect eating, speaking and even general health.

Investing in dental treatments such as dental implants helps to improve quality of life and boosts self-esteem, allowing older people to smile with confidence and live to the full.

Dental implants in the elderly: Is it safe to have implants in old age?

According to Dr. Roberto Markarian, implant dentist:“Age alone is not an impediment to dental implants. What really matters is the patient’s general health and the condition of the bone structure in the mouth.” At the ImplArt Clinic, we carry out complete assessments to ensure the safety and success of treatment for the elderly.

Factors Evaluated Before Dental Implant Procedures in the Elderly:

  1. General Health: Chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension must be controlled before the procedure.
  2. BoneDensity: Bone loss is common in the elderly, but can be solved with bone grafts if necessary.
  3. Personalized Planning: We use technologies such as digital tomography and 3D planning, which offer precision and safety, even in the most complex cases.

Porcelain veneers for a beautiful and attractive smile

To improve the appearance of the teeth and correct any damage they have suffered, patients have at their disposal porcelain veneers or dental contact lenses, which are thin porcelain Veneers, customized for the patient and bonded to the front of the front teeth. They are able to change the aesthetics of the smile.

With this procedure, your smile can look more beautiful and your self-esteem can also benefit. Porcelain veneers can solve a variety of aesthetic problems in the teeth, such as stains and discoloration, chips, enamel wear, small fractures, closing gaps between teeth (diastheme), enlarging small teeth, changing the shape of teeth, among others.

What is the difference between a contact lens and a veneer?

Basically, the differences between dental lenses and veneers are their thickness, the material used and the preparation technique.

porcelain veneers
Dental veneers

Porcelain veneers

In the porcelain veneer technique, the dentist needs to:

  • Wear away a LARGER amount of the tooth enamel (approximately 1mm).
  • SILICONE molds and impression trays are made. While the permanent veneers are being prepared, the patient wears the temporary veneers.
  • The material used is generally common feldspathic porcelain, made using a handmade technique (more fragile).

The purpose of wearing down the teeth is to make room for the porcelain veneer and increase its thickness. Without wear, the teeth would be overcontoured, or have too much volume. In addition, the porcelain veneer might not fit so perfectly on the tooth.

sedation
Dental lenses

Dental contact lenses

In the contact lens technique, the dentist needs to:

  • Wear away a LESSER amount of the tooth enamel (approximately 0.3mm).
  • Molds are made with an INTRA ORAL SCANNER. While the permanent veneers are being prepared, the patient wears temporary lenses or a mockup. Sometimes it is not necessary to use temporary lenses because the wear does not affect the aesthetics.
  • The material used is generally porcelain MADE ON A COMPUTERIZED MILL (more resistant and precise).

Like any restoration, porcelain veneers need to be properly cared for and periodically reassessed. Patients should also maintain the hygiene of the tooth surfaces. We now also make ultra-thin porcelain veneers, which are dental contact lenses. The application of dental lenses requires little or no wear to the tooth structure. Find out more by clicking here.

Will I lose my dentures during dental bone grafting?

Before answering this question, it is necessary to explain that there are different dental bone grafting techniques, each with its own complexity and extent. This directly influences the guidelines for the post-operative period and recovery time.

In most cases it is possible to use a prosthesis while the graft heals

Dental bone grafting to allow the placement of just one implant, where the patient has teeth to be used as support for the prosthesis, is not the same as block grafting to place several implants in a full arch, which is considered more complex.

However, in many cases, it is possible to attach a temporary resin prosthesis, which is suitable for helping the tooth graft recover and heal, as well as allowing the patient not to be without teeth for the duration of the treatment.

After the recovery period, the temporary prosthesis is replaced by a permanent prosthesis made from the material chosen jointly by the patient and the dentist (resin, metal-ceramic or fully esthetic zirconia).

Types of tooth graft

Particulate Graft

Particulate grafting is used in small reconstructions, such as filling in a site where there has been bone loss or in the maxillary sinus lift technique. The biomaterials used in particulate bone grafting are implanted to replace or repair atrophied tissue.

They can be of natural origin (a small amount of crushed human bone from the patient themselves or from a tissue bank for transplants, or freeze-dried bovine bone powder).

genox_enxerto_osseo

The particulate graft can also be made of synthetic material produced in the laboratory, fully biocompatible with osteoconductive properties (attraction of bone tissue-forming cells) or synthetic vitreous materials (synthetic hydroxyapatite).

The particulate dental graft is deposited in situ and then covered with a collagen membrane. In favorable cases, the dental implant can be placed on the same day as the graft, followed by a temporary prosthesis.

Block Grafting

This technique is indicated for more extensive reconstructions. The block-shaped tooth graft can be taken from another part of the patient’s body. When only one block is needed, it can be taken from the mandible.

dental graft

When more blocks are needed, they can be taken from the pelvis or skullcap. None of the donor sites suffer from bone loss. The blocks are fixed in the jawbone with titanium screws and will thus allow more dental implants to be placed.

The possibility of using a prosthesis in this type of graft is therefore assessed on a case-by-case basis. The ImplArtDental Clinic has extensive experience in dental bone grafting techniques.

Dental contact lenses can radically change the appearance of a smile!

What are dental contact lenses?

Dental lenses are a modern technique that can certainly transform the aesthetics of your smile quickly. They are ultra-thin porcelain veneers (0.2 mm) that are bonded to the outside of the teeth in order to correct certain defects in the teeth.

This is the case, for example, with stains, small fractures, asymmetries, diastemas (exaggerated space between teeth), very short teeth, among others. Dental contact lens treatment is undoubtedly the secret to the smiles of the famous.

What is the best material for dental contact lenses?

They are made from dental porcelain. This is a glassy ceramic material (lithium disilicate) that is very resistant and imitates the texture and shades of natural teeth. It is certainly a safe material and totally biocompatible with the human body.

What is the difference between dental contact lenses and resin veneers?

Dental contact lenses are now associated with an aesthetically natural smile and their development involves modern computer graphics techniques and 3D printers.

Nowadays, however, we see that the old resin veneers are becoming more popular. Of course, it’s important to note that resin is a far inferior material to porcelain. Therefore, it is likely that the option of resin veneers has gained ground mainly due to their price and low treatment costs. Although resin veneers are a more economical option, they have a tendency to yellow over time and, in most cases, promote extra tooth volume. Resin veneers therefore offer no advantages over dental contact lenses.

In a consultation, the patient is first examined and listened to by the dentist so that all their expectations are understood. Our team will then check whether this treatment is the right one for you.

At the ImplArt Clinic, not only the design but also the execution of the contact lenses is done using computerized systems. The computerized design is based on images obtained by an intraoral scanner.

A high-precision camera with Danish technology is passed over the teeth and a digital mold is created on the computer screen. The digital impression reproduces every detail, such as shape, color and texture. The images of the digital mold are used to plan the lenses, the choice of shade and the shape.

Ready-made dental contact lenses for the front teeth (8 teeth) made on a 3D printer.

The aesthetic design takes into account that the lenses match the neighboring teeth, as well as each person’s face and personality. One of the great advantages of the computerized design of the lenses is that the treatment can be fully simulated and the patient can see what their teeth will look like. Once the design has been approved, the lenses are then made in 3D printers.

Preparing teeth for lenses: is there wear on the teeth?

Because dental contact lenses are ultra-thin, they have the great advantage of requiring little or no wear on the teeth in order to be bonded. The lenses are then bonded onto the prepared teeth with a type of dental adhesive.

It’s worth noting that dental contact lenses are firmer when bonded to the front teeth than to the back teeth. The work is almost always done without anesthesia in the area where the contact lenses will be placed, but when the preparation requires some wear that reaches the dentin, anesthesia is applied to avoid discomfort.

Do dental contact lenses always have to be very white?

Many patients want to get contact lenses and are afraid that their smile will look too white and artificial. Certainly the choice of the color of the prostheses, including the lenses, generates expectation in the patient, as they are, after all, a fundamental part of the treatment. Dental contact lenses can produce very natural and harmonious results. First of all, it’s important to note that there is a very wide range of colors for computerized contact lenses. Of course, here at the ImplArt Clinic you will be guided to choose a shade that is in harmony with you, through visagism techniques and with professional guidance.

Contact Lens treatment can be combined with crowns and implants

Yes, contact lens treatment can certainly be combined with other patient needs. Therefore, if the patient needs dental implants, dental crowns or contact lenses on other teeth, the treatment is planned together.

According to Dr. Markarian, our clinical director, the contact lenses are designed in computer graphics along with the dental crowns on implants. They are then printed on the modern 3D milling machines in our digital laboratory.
In this way, the smile presents natural and long-lasting final results. Both the teeth that have been fitted with Contact Lenses and those with dental implant crowns will have harmonious shades and shapes.

Some indications for dental contact lenses

  • Covering stains on teeth (in the case of very dark stains, another treatment may be indicated)
  • Tooth augmentation – suitable for people with very short teeth
  • Change in the shape of the teeth
  • Volume leveling between teeth
  • Closing diastemas – closing the gap between teeth
  • Correcting tooth asymmetry
  • Texture correction, for example on teeth with worn enamel
  • Repairing broken or chipped teeth

Major problems of asymmetry and misaligned teeth, in principle, cannot be solved with dental contact lenses, but with orthodontic treatment or Invisalign clear aligners.

Nowadays we can improve your case even further using facial harmonization techniques

Advantages of dental contact lenses

  • High resistance and long durability of the dental contact lens
  • Very aesthetic look, comparable to natural teeth
  • Minimally invasive restorations
  • Completely painless procedure
  • They don’t require much tooth grinding to be installed
  • Preserves the structure of the teeth
  • No discomfort in chewing function
  • Porcelain doesn’t change color over the years
  • Incredibly natural and harmonious result
  • It can be designed and executed in a short time, in some cases even in a Day Clinic.

Dental contact lenses: disadvantages and contraindications

  • People with many restorations
  • Serious bruxism sufferers
  • Weak teeth at risk of falling out or fracturing. For weak teeth it may be better to make a dental porcelain crown.
  • Dental malocclusion and orthodontic problems.
  • Missing teeth in the back of the mouth and the need for dental implants.
  • Tooth decay, periodontal disease and gingivitis. These teeth should be treated first
  • As the treatment is definitive, it is not possible to remove the lens and leave it without a replacement, as the tooth has been prepared for the placement of the lens (enamel wear). This is why the treatment must be well planned between dentist and patient to avoid regrets.
Lente de contato

How long do dental contact lenses last?

The duration of dental contact lenses depends on certain precautions, such as:

  • Good treatment planning and execution, important to promote the best adaptation of the lenses to the teeth and gums
  • Good quality materials (porcelain and dental cement)
  • Proper oral hygiene
  • Regular visits to the dentist
  • Use a brush with soft bristles and brush gently to avoid receding gums.
  • Food (beware of acidic foods that can aggressively damage porcelain)
  • Avoid biting your nails or chewing on hard objects

However, dental contact lenses have a limited lifespan and may need to be replaced after a few years (5 to 10 years).

Contact lenses price

Prices and values of dental treatments and dental contact lenses can only be given after a dental consultation. There are three main reasons for this:

  • The Code of Ethics of the Federal Council of Dentistry prohibits dentists from carrying out consultations without evaluating the patient.
  • Dental treatments can only be indicated after a careful assessment of the patient. There are numerous factors that influence the planning and price of a treatment, such as materials, techniques used, extent of the problem, etc.
  • The third is the importance of being assessed by a professional dentist who makes dental lenses, who is attentive to all the details of oral health, not just aesthetics.

It is certainly important to emphasize that a dental treatment cannot be compared by its price. The value of a treatment involves several factors and choosing by price alone cannot be a determining factor. Choose the quality and seriousness of the professional, not just the price!

Complete dental implants improve chewing, self-esteem and aesthetics

A complete dental implant is a fixed dental prosthesis on implants that makes up for the absence of all the teeth and improves chewing, speech and the look of the smile. It is called a protocol prosthesis and aims to re-establish the patient’s chewing function by inserting a dental implant in the upper or lower arch.

There are currently many types of protocol prosthesis to be installed on dental implants. Among them is translucent zirconia, which is the most modern option because it uses a computerized system for its execution, which improves precision, speeds up results and allows for superior aesthetics combined with high resistance.

The dental implant, on the other hand, can be made of titanium, or even ceramic, in Straumann‘s modern version, Pure Ceramic, or even the fast-healing titanium version, Slactive. There is also a national dental implant option, Neodent.

Complete dental implants to improve chewing and self-esteem

We are currently working with materials that are very comparable to natural teeth, both in terms of function and aesthetics. Patients who have lost their teeth for various reasons can have consequences that affect their health and well-being.

The absence of natural teeth (edentulism) hinders the ability to chew food, compromising the intake of essential nutrients for health and quality of life.

In addition, the person with total edentulism has their social life affected because they can’t smile and speak confidently in front of other people. As a result, they tend to become reclusive and have low self-esteem.

Undeniably, treatment with implants improves the patient’s quality of life, raising their self-esteem and allowing them to eat comfortably.

Advantages of a fixed prosthesis over a removable prosthesis

The fact that the prosthesis is fixed on implants makes it more comfortable and safer for the wearer to chew and speak than a mobile prosthesis, which can sometimes become maladjusted and move or even hurt.

Implants can be placed in different ways, as it varies according to the patient’s condition, especially if they have been edentulous for many years.

The most common method is to place six titanium implant pins in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw. A temporary prosthesis is also always planned so that the patient doesn’t lose teeth.

After the healing period (which varies according to each case), dental prostheses can be attached to the implants for complete oral rehabilitation.

Titanium implants replace lost tooth roots, while prostheses are similar in shape, color and strength to natural dental crowns.

Learn more about the full-arch implant.

Natural result of implants for all teeth

The complete dental implant is very similar to natural human teeth. As a result, the patient’s smile is once again harmonious and difficult for other people to distinguish as a prosthesis.

Social interaction is restored and the patient has more confidence to smile and speak. When the patient receives a complete dental implant, they are able to chew food that they couldn’t chew before.

This is a way of ensuring a richer, more nutritious diet and that the food reaches the stomach properly prepared for digestion. ImplArt Odontologia specializes in dental implants, in titanium or ceramic, and modern computerized prostheses, Zirconia or Cerec porcelain, in addition to traditional methods.

Digital dental design

The realization of digital dental prosthesis design is possible thanks to advances in technology in recent years. These technologies are certainly making treatments faster, more precise and with better predictability of results. This applies to both fixed prostheses on dental implants and prostheses on teeth.

It is now possible to see and perfect the result of the treatment on the computer screen before it is finished

ImplArt is continually investing in acquiring the main technologies developed in this sector. They allow us to carry out what we call a digital smile project, i.e. we use a computer to design one or more teeth (choosing their shape and shade) and to plan implant surgeries.

The latest addition is the Cerec Primemill milling machine, which allows crowns to be made with even more detail and even more precise results.

Modern technologies are constantly advancing, always seeking to combine greater patient comfort, speedy treatment and superior aesthetic results. In addition, there is a variety of work available such as crowns, blocks, fixed prostheses with pontics, dental lenses, prostheses on implants.

Photographs of the patient and software are used to plan and make functional and aesthetic changes to the smile, such as adjusting occlusion, the shape and shade of the teeth.

According to scientific research carried out by Dr. Roberto Markarian, Clinical Director of ImplArt, the use of digital prostheses speeds up the delivery time of the work by up to 5x, and increases the degree of patient satisfaction by 80%.

Cerec 3D and Ceramill Motion II

Systems developed for dental laboratories in which we can make the digital design of prostheses, plan and execute teeth using 3D printers. The technique used in digital smile design is called CAD/CAM (computer-aided design). It consists of 4 phases:

  • Intraoral Scanner – This is a high-precision camera used to capture images inside the patient’s mouth. The images are so lifelike that they show minute details such as the tone and texture of the gums and teeth.
  • Processing software – The images captured by the camera are sent to specialized software that creates a three-dimensional digital mould. In this processing phase, our team has the freedom to make adjustments, such as altering the shape and tone, in order to leave the piece with the characteristics that best match the patient’s needs. The computerized design can be superimposed on photographs of the patient to make it easier to understand the proposed treatment.
  • Milling – Equipment that works in a similar way to 3D printers. It receives information from the project and executes it accordingly. This compartment has robotic arms that mill raw ceramic blocks until they reach the shape of the designed part.
  • Ceramic kiln – The designed piece is taken to a high-temperature kiln to undergo a process called ceramic sintering. This phase is what gives the piece strength, shine and shade so that it has characteristics very close to natural teeth.

The main advantages of digital prosthesis design are:

  • Precision – the design of each tooth is made according to the patient’s needs. Once finished, they are the same size and shade as the original design. The fit is usually excellent.
  • Predictability – the software we use is sensitive enough for us to create a three-dimensional mold of the patient in great detail. Both our professionals and the patient can visualize the project on the computer screen, thus being able to predict the outcome of the treatment very accurately.
  • Speed – this system allows us to skip steps that could previously only be done manually, meaning that prosthetic work has become faster. We can perform teeth in a few days or even a few hours through the Day Clinic*.
  • Repeatability – The system allows you to repeat jobs and even make an identical copy of a prosthesis or tooth.

The installation of a provisional made with digital smile planning allows the patient to concretely visualize how their treatment will look before they begin the more invasive procedures in the mouth. This is known as a smile test drive or digital mockup. Treatments that can be planned on a computer:

Get to know Implart’s dental 3d printers

It is well known that 3D printers have great versatility for making various objects. The good news is that 3D printing is now a reality in dentistry and is increasingly transforming the way treatments are carried out.

The 3D printing solution has been brought to dentistry to make aesthetic, fast and precise prostheses and restorations

ImplArt Odontologia is equipped with two of the most modern dental 3D printers: the Cerec System from the German company Sirona and the Ceramil Motion 2 milling machine from the Austrian company AmannGirrbach.

Both companies are world references in research and development of solutions in the area of Digital Dentistry.

Cerec Sirona System and 3Shape Trios

They are Cad/Cam systems capable of building various types of parts, for example prostheses, bridges, highly aesthetic crowns, dental restorations, ultra-thin dental contact lenses. They work in three main phases:

sedation

1 – Intraoral scanner: a high-precision camera that captures images of the inside of the patient’s mouth. It takes a digital impression, thus eliminating the need to use putty. We use two of the main intraoral scanners on the market, the Omnicam and the Trios 3Shape.

sedation

2 – Computer: we carry out planning with two of the main systems, Cerec 3D and 3Shape Dental System. The images captured by the intraoral scanner are used to design and simulate three-dimensional prosthetic pieces with shapes and shades according to each patient’s needs.

3 – 3D printers: a milling unit with a robot that sculpts the prosthetic part out of a rough ceramic block. The part is then taken to a kiln for the ceramic sintering process to give it strength.

ImplArt has the most up-to-date version ofthe Cerec system milling machine, the German Cerec Primemill 3D tooth printer. This milling machine has functions for faster production, which in many cases allows us to carry out your treatment in a Day Clinic. Primemill also makes crowns, bridges, dental lenses and restorations with a more refined finish and greater detail.

Versatility of 3D printers: the prostheses that can be made with the Cerec system are crowns, bridges, copings, onlays, inlays, dental contact lenses as well as copies of old restorations. Watch a video of the system in operation by clicking here.

Ceramill Motion 2 milling machine

It uses Cad/Cam technology to digitally produce dental prostheses in different materials such as zirconia, wax, metal alloy, resin, glass-ceramic and lithium disilicate. It has exclusive software for projecting and simulating prostheses.

Once the design is finalized, the system then sends the command to the milling unit to make the part.

The milling unit has robotic arms that carve the prosthetic part dry or irrigated.

Versatility: the prostheses that can be made on the Ceramill Motion 2 milling machine are crowns, frameworks for dental prostheses, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, dental contact lenses, individual abutments and telescopic crowns.

UltraCraft ChairSide Pro

The UltraCraft ChairSide Pro 3D printer has been designed to meet the production needs of dental applications with quality, high precision and speed, including being a resource for your dental day clinic treatment. Due to the digitalized workflow, UltraCraft helps the dynamics of the ImplArt dental laboratory and clinic, and above all generates satisfaction for our patients.

The use of scans creates more precise and durable crowns in a faster process than other production methods. In this sense, the UltraCraft 3D printer has further strengthened the ImplArt Dental Clinic‘s digital laboratory.
